Highway Engineer – 2-5 Years of Experience:

Freeman Companies, a multi-disciplinary engineering firm based in Hartford, CT, has an immediate opportunity for a 2-5 year experienced highway engineer to join our growing traffic/safety and transportation engineering practice.

Job Description: Under direction of the project manager, performs professional highway engineering functions in field and office including design of construction projects; and other related work as required.

Examples of Duties:  Preparation of plans for the development of road construction or reconstruction plans and specifications, including recommended route locations, minimum design standards, laying grades and computing quantities of materials; determines right-of-way widths to be acquired; supervises work in the field and  interprets plans and specifications on job site to insure standards are met; verifies contract quantities and payments

Education and Experience:  A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and two years of highway construction and design experience.  Experience that demonstrates knowledge of CADD is required.

Knowledge and Abilities:  Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices applied to highway and bridge design and construction; knowledge of the basic principles and practices of engineering field and office work.


Traffic Project Engineers and Staff Engineers:

Seeking entry-level, junior and/or mid-level Traffic Engineers to join our Hartford office and fulfill Project Engineering and Staff Engineering rolls. These are excellent opportunities for traffic engineers with 1-10+ years of experience to join a dynamic organization and work on major traffic engineering studies and signal design projects. The successful candidates must be familiar in all areas of traffic engineering field including: traffic impact studies, basic intersection design, traffic signal control studies and design.

Responsibilities:

  • Traffic data collection and tabulation
  • Development, analysis and evaluation of traffic improvements
  • Research to support traffic policy decisions
  • General traffic and safety studies
  • Design of traffic control devices
  • Intersection and roadway level of service analyses
  • Assessment of impacts

Qualifications:

  • Experience with AutoCAD and traffic operational analysis tools such as HCS and Synchro applications
  • BS Civil Engineering and 2-10 years of experience
  • PE a plus
  • Familiarity with engineering guidelines and standards
  • Strong oral presentation, communication, and teamwork skills are essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
